The Primary Goal of the Central Coast Wine Classic is to confer grants for specific projects for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county non-profits whose missions are to sustain the studio, performing and healing arts. Over the past five years, the Wine Classic has conferred $ 1,165,000 in grants to over fifty Charitable Organizations.
Beneficiaries of grants from the 2008 Wine Classic included the Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County, Atascadero Loaves & Fishes, Cal Poly Arts, the El Camino Homeless Organization, PCPA Theaterfest, Project Angels Bearing Gifts, the San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra, the San Luis Obispo YMCA, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts, and Tierra Sagrada, The Sacred Earth Foundation. The Fund-a-Need proceeds inured to the benefit of the newly created Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo.
Five hundred and sixty enthusiastic and animated Rare & Fine Wine & Lifestyle Auction attendees bid on an eclectic array of fine wines and wine and food-oriented lifestyle packages that ranged from the Central Coast to Europe. Tom and Kristen Boothe of Portland, Oregon, topped all bidders, followed by past number one bidder Jose Luis Nazar of Los Angeles, Coleman and Jeannie Davis of Tucson, Arizona, three-time top bidders Bill and Sharon Shubin of Sun Valley, Idaho, and Ron and Susan Greenspan of Los Angeles.
The Auction Total of $ 802,050 included Live Auction proceeds of $ 698,800, Silent Auction proceeds of $ 20,850 and Fund-a-Need proceeds of $ 82,400, the Wine Classic's best Fund-a-Need result in its twenty-four year history.
The 2009 Central Coast Wine Classic, the Twenty-Fifth Annual, during which an array of unique and special wine and food activities will be presented to commemorate the twenty-five year history of the event, is scheduled for July 9 through 12, with the majority of the activities at the Dolphin Bay Resort & Spa in Shell Beach, and the Rare & Fine Wine & Lifestyle Auction at the Avila Beach Resort in Avila Beach.
The Twenty-Fifth Annual Wine Classic will feature a significant number of Very Special & Unique Auction Lots. Among them will be Art Works from Remarkable Artists, Some of whom have a Long history with the Wine Classic. They are Pairing with Extraordinary Vintners to share their Art in a Unique Manner.
Each Art Work will be Auctioned Separately; however, each will also be Etched & Hand-Painted on a Salmanazar, a Nine Liter Bottle holding an Entire Case of a Unique Wine created by Individual Vintners or Pairs of Vintners. The Salmanazar will be Auctioned with Three Magnums and Six 750 ml Bottles that will have the Central Coast Wine Classic Logo and the Blend Particulars Etched & Hand-Painted on the Bottles.
Artists include: Yuroz, James-Paul Brown, Robert Burridge, Joanne Ruggles, Richard Tullis, Adam Licsko, Robert Reynolds, Gary Conway, Louise Lachance Legault, Lygia Chappellet, Carissa Chappellet & Lori Ann David.
Their Artistic Images will appear on the Wine Classic Website as the Art Works are completed & photographed.
In Addition, Three Wine Barrels will be Hand-Painted by Our Traditional Commemorative Artists, Yuroz, Robert Burridge & James-Paul Brown, and Each will be Auctioned Separately. The Images will also appear on the Wine Classic Website as the Art Works are completed.
